How to Care for Crystal

Crystal was first discovered in the late 17th century, and its production in the Czech lands has a rich tradition. It is valued for its beauty and artistic worth. Crystal can be intricately decorated with complex cuts or elegantly clear in its natural radiant beauty. Here are some tips on how to care for crystal:

1. First Use

Before using, first remove any traces of glue left by labels. Then, rinse the crystal products by hand with warm water, using only a small amount of mild detergent. Let them dry afterward.

2. Washing Crystal

We recommend washing Rückl hand-blown crystal glass by hand in lukewarm water with a soft sponge or cloth to prevent mechanical damage during dishwasher washing. If you want to use the dishwasher, give the glass plenty of space.

When cleaning crystal from stains and dried-on dirt, you can add vinegar to the soapy water. Finally, dry the crystal with a gentle wipe using a clean piece of cloth to prevent water deposits.

3. Crystal is Sensitive to Temperature

Czech crystal is a charming material. If you own a piece with deep cuts, be careful about sudden temperature changes that hot or very cold drinks can cause. These can increase the internal stress of the glass and cause it to crack. In general, however, crystal glass is not recommended for hot drinks. Do not put crystal in a conventional or microwave oven or in the freezer.

4. Handle Crystal with Care

The characteristic shape of Rückl glasses is a robust base and a thin upper edge. Remember that the upper edge is the most fragile and can be damaged with careless handling.

Sharp objects can also scratch the crystal surface. Whenever you wash or store the glass, leave space between individual pieces.
